Four years ago Nina, a dear friend from my high school days, contacted me and said she’d been thinking of a writing project she wanted to discuss with me. As a former teacher with experiences teaching middle school students Nina was acutely aware of the dearth of reading and study materials about WWII and specifically about the evacuation and internment of all persons of Japanese ancestry from the West Coast during that time. She suggested the idea that we would co-author a memoir encompassing her family’s experiences during the war alongside my family’s experiences of being interned for the duration of the war.

After a very brief time to consider the idea I agreed, not knowing exactly what I was getting myself into.

This section of my blog addresses our work and progress since our decision to proceed and is presented here for your viewing and comments.
