Yesterday I supervised the final task in our downsizing endeavors, the clearing out of all the trash and stuff and detritus from our garage – Things have a way of gathering in dark corners while you’re not watching, and the midnight gremlins certainly did a number on our garage – In addition to all the stuff and nonsense that we gathered over the 14 years in Panorama Drive storing them in the garage, I discovered in my checking that there were tons of cans of old paint left in the cupboards by the previous owner…! And, they left a whole crap-load of stuff they neglected to downsize when they left the house to us, so I ended up having to deal with their left-over stuff as well…
So, this last of all tasks in our downsizing came to finding a local company to haul away all the crap and nonsense – I initially found a company online based on the east coast that promised to find a local company in any community across the country to provide the services one needed, and at a competitive cost – I “hired” them and they set up our cleaning date with a local vendor – Or, so I thought, as on the day before the projected garage cleaning I received an email from the company indicating they had not found a company to do the job, and rescheduled the day of cleaning – I was anticipating meeting the company at the house, and again received a notice that the company had difficulty finding a local vendor to take care of my task, and again a date was rescheduled for a couple of days later – On that day, I opened the garage door, and patiently waited for the men to come to take care of my downsizing task, but I waited and waited, and after 45 minutes, I figured they weren’t coming, and closed up the garage and left. I emailed the parent company asking what was happening, and cancelled my work order – I did receive an email response a couple of days later explaining they were unable to find a local company to assume my task, and this happens on occasion, and they apologized for not meeting my needs…
I asked our realtor if she had anyone to suggest, and I received 2 names of local people who did this kind of work, and contacted one company called Junk Munkiez and set an appointment with them – On the day, I met a crew of two and they assessed the extent of the piles of stuff, crunched the numbers in their algorithm and came up with a number for me that I was pleased with, and gave an ok for them to go ahead and clear out my garage – The previous company had assessed the job to be done (on line) and came up with a quote of $453.00 – Junk Munkiez came up with a quote of $244.38 for the same job…
Junk Munkiez did a quick and efficient job of clearing everything out, and here is a shot of the loaded stuff being hauled away – Mission accomplished…! The thing that put a cherry on top of this work sundae was that the two men were very professional, nicely personable, and talked to me and treated me like I was a real person – For anyone living in the Eugene-Springfield area, you will do right by yourself in hiring Junk Munkiez for any of your downsizing needs…!
