I’ve noticed something about those who are protesting the wearing of masks as a violation of their freedoms, and overreach by a dictatorial government – They’re all white. There, I did say it, they’re all white. I don’t know if there are people of color who are protesting masks, but if there are their publicists aren’t doing a very good job of getting them recognition. Just kidding, I don’t think there are many, if any, persons of color who are protesting masks as an infringement of their rights as an American citizen. They know better. Here’s what I think is going on: anyone who is protesting masks as an infringement of personal freedoms, is someone who is mistaking an inconvenience against their white privilege for an egregious imposition by the government. Now mind you, the things they’re pissed about is not being able to get their hair done, not being able to shop at Walmart without a mask, and not being able to eat out at a restaurant. It’s not as though they’ve been denied renting a house, or having to sit in the back of the bus, follow the “White Only” signs, or not being able to sit at a lunch counter and eat a meal. Or, God forbid, being incarcerated in an American concentration camp because they happen to look like the enemy, nothing like that. No, all these white folks are pissed because it’s an inconvenience, something they’ve not been asked to do ever in their lives, and it’s just not right. It’s not as though they have to use seat belts when they drive, or helmets when they ride a motorcycle, or follow the signal lights at the corner on their way to Walmart. Oh, and because they are fully functioning adults who are intelligent with reasonable understanding of the world, it’s not right that someone can go around telling them what to do or not do, it’s not like it is a matter of life or death or anything. And because they are these highly intelligent fully grownup adults who know their science behind all this fuss, why not leave it up to them whether they wear a mask or not? And you know, because they are all people of upright principle, if they were to contract coronavirus, they wouldn’t burden our ERs or ICUs when they become seriously ill, and they will in principle decline the use of a ventilator because it won’t be necessary in that it’s all a hoax anyway. Right…? Yeah, right…! That’s the face of white privilege of everyone protesting masks here.
