Barbara and I moved here from our Berkeley home of 42 years on June 30, 2007, and after our Berkeley home sold in November we made a bid on the Panorama Drive home here – We met the asking price of the previous owners, and as part of our negotiation allowed them to remain in the home through the New Year’s – We moved in on January 8, 2008 – All of our four grandchildren grew up within these walls, and there are so many great memories of their play here – We decided in early 2020 to make a move to Cascade Manor, a Continuing Care Retirement Community, for health care concerns and making the move while we were still healthy and independent – We initially thought we’d be ready to make our move around September, but when Covid-19 splashed all over the world and here locally, we postponed our move till after New Year’s – We did begin downsizing right away, and were able to sell much of our furniture and larger stuff on Craigslist, which has been a fun venture for me, and we’re still losing more stuff and the space in the home is expanding as more stuff goes – This has been a wonderful home for 13 years, and while our move is welcome in many ways, there are things we will miss – Our livable space will be decreasing from 1,900 sq.ft. to around 1,300, so things will be a little tighter – With much less furniture, maybe this won’t be too noticeable, we’ll see – We’re comfortable with living in our current rooms, the routines are familiar, and it will take some adjustment to a new layout – The biggest loss will be the view out of any of our windows here, compared with that in our new apartment – We have 14 windows here at Panorama overlooking the “valley” below and around the neighborhood, and 2 sliding doors that open out onto the back deck, and the front door – The view from any window and through each sliding door, even the front door when open, looks out at a lot of green – These views will be sorely missed, as the view from our 2nd floor apartment living room and office window overlook 38th Avenue and Rite Aid across the street, and the windows out of our bedroom look out onto an indoor hallway connecting one end of our building to the next – For 13 years we’ve been spoiled with the view and all the green – This will be the biggest adjustment…
